Renowned film composer Joe Hisaishi will perform some of his iconic scores from the films he wrote for the anime films of Studio Ghibli as well as a new concerto for a full symphony orchestra: the Concerto for Orchestra. Carnegie Hall Presents Composer and Conductor Joe Hisaishi for One Night Only on Saturday, July 11, 2026. The renowned Japanese composer and conductor Joe Hisaishi brings his stunning and renowned orchestral library to life with the acclaimed Orchestra of St. Luke’s in a specially-curated evening of his celebrated film music and symphonies performed LIVE! This premium New York performance will be the U.S. premiere of Hisaishi’s newly-written Concerto for Orchestra.
Joe Hisaishi In Concert 2026 is a performance tour of several cities across the United States: Los Angeles, Toronto, Chicago and Hawaii, plus this special concert at Carnegie Hall in New York City.
The program at Carnegie Hall will highlight decades of celebrated film compositions by Heisaishi that both long time fans of Heisaishi’s as well as new film music fans will recognize and fall in love with, including the New York premiere of Hisaishi’s Concerto for Orchestra, which will be performed first, followed by celebrated composer Philip Glass’ influential low tonality Symphony No. 1 “Low”.
His newest album, Symphonic Celebration, was released in 2023 by Deutsche Grammophon and stayed on the USA classical charts for weeks. His newest solo albums are Songs of Hope: The Essential Joe Hisaishi Vol. 2, published in October 2023, and MinimalRhythm installments.
He holds eight Japanese Academy Awards for Best Music as well as Japan’s Medal of Honour in 2009, plus Academy Award nominations for the live action film Away and the drama film Departures. Internationally he received many more awards for film music.
Carnegie Hall is located at 881 Seventh Avenue (at 57th Street), New York, NY 10019. Founded by Andrew Carnegie in 1891, as a way to give back to the community by providing a venue for performing artists to have somewhere to perform, it is now considered one of the world’s greatest concert halls. This legendary performance venue has over 3,000 events each year and features a variety of venues including Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage which has five levels of seating.
The Stern Auditorium/Perelman holds up to 2,790 patrons in its Parterre, Dress Circle, First Tier, Second Tier and Balcony seating locations. Visitors can enjoy wheelchair accessible seating and companion seating as well as wheelchair accessible entrances throughout the venue. In addition Carnegie Hall provides a range of assistive listening devices to all of its patrons for all of its concerts.
There are three entrances to the Stern’s main entrance which is located on Seventh Avenue and the two accessible entrances on 56th and 57th Streets. The bars in the lobbies serve wine, soft drinks, coffee, tea, bottled water and baked goods such as cookies and pretzels. All types of food and refreshments are permitted in the lobbies but not in the seating areas of the concert halls. In addition, outside food and beverages are permitted in designated locations.
